What Is Longevity Dentistry?
Dentistry is no longer just about fixing teeth. It is about understanding how the craniofacial system, airway, sleep, and oral microbiome influence your overall healthspan, ageing process, and quality of life.
Our Philosophy of Care

Dr. Komal Suri explains the vision behind ASURA
Biological Ageing vs Dental Ageing
Just as your biological age can differ from your chronological age, your dental age can outpace you. Worn enamel, receding gums, and failing restorations can make your mouth function and look decades older than you are. This premature dental ageing is rarely just "bad luck"; it is the result of cumulative micro-traumas, functional imbalances, and chronic inflammation.
Treating the Fire, Not Just the Smoke
Traditional dentistry often operates on a reactive model: waiting for a tooth to break, a cavity to form, or pain to arise, and then repairing the immediate damage. This is treating the "smoke."
Longevity Dentistry seeks out the "fire." We ask why the tooth broke, why the bite collapsed, or why the gums are inflamed. By identifying root causes, such as sleep-disordered breathing, systemic inflammation, or functional occlusal overload, we aim to optimise not just your oral health, but your overall healthspan.
Prevention vs Intervention
The most conservative dentistry is the dentistry you never need. Our philosophy is heavily weighted towards advanced diagnostics and early prevention. By using CBCT imaging, digital scanning, and airway screening, we can detect functional breakdown years before a tooth fractures. When intervention is necessary, it is planned meticulously to ensure it lasts, minimising the cycle of repeated dental work throughout your life.
The Longevity Pathway
A structured, predictable pathway from comprehensive assessment to lifelong maintenance.
1. Assess
Comprehensive evaluation of your oral health, airway, bite function, and systemic connections.
The 10 Pillars of Longevity Dentistry
1. Sleep Quality & Recovery
Sleep is the foundation of cellular repair, cognitive health, and immune function. Fragmented sleep due to micro-arousals (often caused by airway resistance) prevents the body from entering deep, restorative sleep stages. We screen for sleep-disordered breathing and sleep apnoea and bruxism (teeth grinding), which are often neurological responses to a compromised airway during sleep.
2. Airway & Breathing Mechanics
How you breathe dictates your health. Chronic mouth breathing bypasses the nasal filtration system and the production of nitric oxide (a crucial vasodilator). We assess craniofacial development, palate width, and tongue posture to ensure your airway remains open and functional, reducing stress on the cardiovascular system. Learn how adult palatal expansion can help.
3. The Oral Microbiome
Your mouth hosts the second most diverse microbiome in the body after the gut. Dysbiosis (an imbalance of oral bacteria) can lead to periodontal disease. More importantly, pathogenic oral bacteria can enter the bloodstream, contributing to systemic issues like atherosclerosis, Alzheimer's disease, and adverse pregnancy outcomes. We focus on cultivating a healthy, protective oral flora through Guided Biofilm Therapy.
4. Systemic Inflammation
Chronic low-grade inflammation ("inflammageing") is a primary driver of biological ageing. Periodontal (gum) disease is a chronic inflammatory wound. By aggressively managing oral inflammation, we reduce the systemic inflammatory burden on your immune system, supporting long-term healthspan.
5. Tooth Wear & Structural Preservation
Enamel is the hardest substance in the human body, but it cannot regenerate. Accelerated tooth wear is rarely just "ageing"—it is usually a sign of functional overload, bruxism, or acid erosion (often linked to GERD or sleep apnoea). We aim to diagnose the cause of wear early and intervene with advanced restorative dentistry to preserve your natural tooth structure for life.
6. Jaw Function & TMJ Health
The temporomandibular joint (TMJ) is one of the most complex joints in the body. Dysfunction here can cause chronic headaches, neck pain, and postural compensations. We use advanced 4D jaw tracking (Modjaw) and functional analysis to ensure your bite is harmonious with your jaw joints and musculature. Explore TMJ & Functional Occlusion treatments.
7. Facial Ageing & Craniofacial Support
As we age, we lose bone mass in the maxilla and mandible, leading to a collapsed facial profile, thinner lips, and deeper wrinkles. By maintaining proper dental arch width, vertical dimension, and tooth support, longevity dentistry provides the structural scaffolding necessary to support facial soft tissues and slow visible ageing.
8. Nutritional Synergy
Oral health and nutrition are bidirectional. Poor oral function limits your ability to chew nutrient-dense foods (like raw vegetables and quality proteins), which accelerates frailty in older age. Conversely, poor nutrition exacerbates oral disease. We view a fully functional, strong bite as essential for longevity nutrition.
9. Advanced Prevention & Diagnostics
Longevity medicine is proactive, not reactive. We utilise CBCT 3D imaging, digital scanning, airway screening, and functional bite analysis to detect micro-changes years before they become catastrophic failures. Early detection allows for minimally invasive, biological interventions.
10. Long-Term Health Optimisation
Our ultimate goal is to help you maintain a healthy, functional, and beautiful smile for your entire life, minimizing the need for invasive dental work in your later years. By integrating dental care with your broader healthspan goals, we act as partners in your overall wellness journey.

Frequently Asked Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between regular dentistry and longevity dentistry?
Regular dentistry focuses primarily on repairing single teeth (filling cavities, fixing broken teeth). Longevity dentistry is a holistic, medical approach that investigates the systemic causes of that damage, such as airway restriction, sleep apnoea, or inflammatory disease, and treats the underlying dysfunction to improve your overall healthspan. It shifts the focus from reactive repair to proactive health preservation.
Can my dentist really help with my sleep?
Yes. Dentists with appropriate training can assess the mouth, jaws and airway to identify factors that may contribute to snoring or Obstructive sleep apnoea. In suitable cases, treatment such as maxillary expansion or mandibular advancement devices may help improve breathing during sleep. A comprehensive diagnostic assessment is essential to determine whether treatment is appropriate and what outcomes can reasonably be expected.
Why do my teeth keep wearing down?
Tooth wear is rarely just "normal ageing." It is frequently a sign of bruxism (grinding), which the brain often triggers to open a collapsing airway during sleep. It can also be caused by an unbalanced bite or acid reflux. We diagnose the specific cause to stop the progression and restore the lost structure rather than just placing a crown that might also eventually break.
How does gum health affect my heart?
Chronic gum disease (periodontitis) is an inflammatory condition. Pathogenic bacteria from the mouth can enter the bloodstream, contributing to systemic inflammation. Research has strongly linked this inflammation to an increased risk of cardiovascular disease, atherosclerosis, and poor blood sugar control in diabetes. Managing oral inflammation is a critical component of longevity.
Is full mouth rehabilitation always necessary?
Not always. Full mouth rehabilitation is recommended when there is widespread functional collapse, severe tooth wear, or multiple failing restorations. However, our goal with longevity dentistry is to catch issues early enough so that comprehensive rehabilitation is never needed. If it is required, we plan it meticulously to ensure it is the last major dental work you will ever need.
What role does nutrition play in longevity dentistry?
Nutrition and oral health are deeply interconnected. A diet high in processed sugars fuels pathogenic bacteria and acid erosion. Conversely, a stable, healthy bite allows you to chew nutrient-dense foods properly, which is essential for systemic health and preventing frailty as you age. We look at the whole picture, including how your diet supports your oral environment.
